Handling & Preservation of Pleated Silk
Let's talk

At Silk & Glass Studios, each garment is made entirely by hand using couture-level methods and proprietary textile processes. Our pleated silk gowns are inspired by the legacy of early 20th century craftsmanship and are constructed without the synthetic reinforcement typical of modern fashion.
These are heirloom garments - meant to be treasured, worn gently, and preserved with care.
Pleated Silk Wear Guidelines
Because of the nature of our hand-pleating process and the composition of pure silk, pleats may relax or distort under certain conditions, particularly if exposed to:
- Body heat and perspiration
- Prolonged seated wear
- Humidity or damp environments
- Abrasion or tension across pressure points (e.g., hips, back, underarms)
These gowns are best suited for low-motion events or ceremonial occasions and are ideally worn for shorter durations.
Caring for Your Pleated Silk Dress
- Always handle garments with clean, dry hands.
- Store your dress in the manner it arrived to you, twisted and coiled and ideally back in its box.
- Do not press, iron, or steam the pleated silk.
- Avoid body oils, moisturizers, or perfume directly on the fabric.
- Never fold your dress for long-term storage.
If pleats relax slightly over time, this is a natural expression of the garment's life. If you wish to restore them, please contact the studio for advice before attempting any treatment.
Size, Fit & Body Considerations
The pleated-silk dresses and ensembles, because of their elastic nature, will accommodate up to a U.S. woman's size 12. However, these gowns are highly sensitive to structural tension, and we advise that clients whose bodies or movement may apply greater pressure to the silk - particularly across fuller hips, torso, or thighs - consult with us prior to purchase.
